Week 10 LaJoya, Texas

Hey Mom,

Let's go Blazers!

Yep we are still eating well and to my knowledge I am still losing weight so, I have no complaints.

A lot of news for this week so the highlights will be fairly long, but here we go:

Tuesday:
We had to watch a bunch of training videos for smartphones so we spent a bit of time doing that, and that was about it.

Wednesday:
Once again not a lot happened. Shipley and I were near the Rio and we had to do Spanish study so we decided to sit on a log near the river and have Spanish study while looking across at Mexico. We also explored a little abandoned house near the Rio because we had some time, it was pretty creepy. We had family history and I tried tracing our family tree back as far as I could, the farthest I got was 200 B.C., I was pretty impressed.

Thursday:
Since Elder Shipley is a District Leader he had to go to an MLC (Mission Leader Conference) so I was on an exchange down in Hidalgo, Texas with Elder Grannis for the day, not much happened, I just met some people down there, but then that night we had 6 Elders stay in 1 apartment, that was pretty fun.

Friday:
Elder Shipley had MLC again for the first half of the day so Elder Grannis and I went to the mall so I could buy my phone, that was pretty interesting, it had been a while since I had been to a mall, it felt weird. Then at about 4 MLC finished so Shipley and I drove back to La Joya. We set up my phone which was pretty cool. I feel so technological now. We went and talked to some people but not much happened. Until about 8:00 pm we were knocking doors and we see   a house with a whole bunch of guys outside barbecuing. I jokingly said to Elder Shipley that maybe if we talk to them they will feed us, so we go up to the gate and a guy kind of waves and then ignores us. Another guy comes up and Elder Shipley says "we understand you guys are busy but is there another time we could come by and share a message". The dude says that there are more people inside and we can go in, so we go into the house and there is a living room full of women (there was a guy in the house) and we start talking with them and start talking about prophets with them, they bring up Joseph Smith and the gold plates, turns out about half of the family were less actives and the other half knew a lot about the church. So we talked for a bit and they invited us to eat with them so we ate dinner with about 30 people. Turns out it was the grandmas birthday and they had like all of their family over. So after we eat they bring out cake and sing happy birthday, then all the family starts taking pictures with their grandma and Shipley and I start joking that we should get our picture taken with their grandma. Of course after a few minutes someone asks if we want our picture with their grandma, we say of course and so a bunch of people in that family have pictures of me, Elder Shipley and their grandma on their phones. What a night. We did end the night with Shipley offering a prayer for the whole family so we did do something.

Saturday:
In case you think Shipley and I both had a the same weird dream about  what happened Friday Night, we made sure. We went back to the same house at about 4 in the afternoon and they invited us in again, we talked about the party last night and we taught the full restoration lesson. After that we just rode around on our bikes looking for people having parties to see if we could get lucky again. We didn't but we did talk to a blind guy at a cookout that some people were having and he was a little weird because he was talking about how one day the Earth is going to stop moving and then there will be no more gravity so everyone will float away. Sure..... Anyway then we biked around some more to finish off the night.

Sunday:
We had church, there were 87 people at sacrament meeting so we are getting somewhere. We had a lot of less actives show up which was really nice and we had a really good fast and testimony meeting. The rest of church went as usual, we didn't have English class afterwards because a lot of people were busy after church so they couldn't. After church we went to Havana to knock some doors but nobody answered, then we saw Eloy Toscano, he is a member in the ward and is super awesome. He talked with us for a bit and then we went to his house and we helped him make tacos, they were delicious. We finished off the night by talking to the Herndandez's but not about the Temple, so no progress so far. Also apparently tomorrow (Monday, the day I am writing this) we are having a ward Family Home Evening (Noche De Hogar in Spanish) about missionary work so Elder Shipley and I are each giving little talks about missionary work, it should be interesting.
